Data Privacy & Enterprise Security
"Will my data train the model?" The answer depends entirely on how you access it. If you use free consumer tools (like ChatGPT.com), your inputs are often used for training by default. If you use the developer API (C4) or Enterprise tiers, providers explicitly guarantee your data is zero-retention and never used for training.
Most non-technical founders accidentally ban AI out of fear, without realizing that plugging into an API is exactly as secure as using AWS or Stripe. The rule of thumb: Consumer Chat UI = potentially used for training. Developer API = private and safe. If extreme privacy is required, open-source models (D5) or local SLMs (D7) are the only way to ensure data physically never leaves your hardware.
Go to your personal ChatGPT or Claude settings right now and find the "Data Controls" or "Improve the Model for Everyone" toggle. Turn it off. You've just switched from the consumer default to a private tier manually.
